Ernest C. Kozo, 84, of South River, NJ, passed away Monday, January 26, 2009, at Saint Peters University Medical Center, New Brunswick, NJ. Born in Woodbridge, NJ, he has resided in South River for over 50 years. Before his retirement in 1983, he was employed by Chevron Corp., Perth Amboy for 32 years as a painter, retiring as a foreman in the Maintenance Department. Ernest was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the 395th Signal Corps from 1942 to 1945 receiving two Bronze Stars. He was a life member of South River V.F.W. Post 1451, where he was a former member of the Honor Guard, a member of Sayreville American Legion Post 211 and Spotswood AMVETS Post 34. Mr Kozo was an avid aviator earning his private pilot license in 1957, and was a life member of "Air Defense Team" for Volunteer Service in the Ground Observation Corp.

He was predeceased by his parents, Vincent and Ethel Kozo; his brother, Charles Kozo; and his nephew, Ernest Kozo. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Doris E. Rupprecht Kozo; his daughter, Karen Charette and her fiance Stephen Niederle of Milltown; and his stepson, Bruce Bertram and his wife Elaine of South River.

Calling hours will be at the Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Ave., South River, NJ. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home, with entombment to follow at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge, NJ.
