Harriett Anne was the tenth of eleven children born to Capt. John Jacob Beck and Anna "Annie" Rogers. When Harriett Anne was only 4 to 6 years old, her 58-year-old father led a wagon train of more than 80 people from Washington Co.,Indiana to an area that would later become known as College Mound, Kaufman Co.,Texas, in the Republic of Texas.

Harriett Anne married Needham Harrison Parrish, April 22, 1858, Kaufman Co., TX. They had nine children: Mary Emeline, James Albert, John Thomas, William Edward, Jessie Eugene, Robert E. Lee, Needham Harrison Jr., Charles Henry, and George Washington Parrish. George was her only child not to live to adulthood.
