Retired senior master sergeant of the U.S. Air Force and a resident of Rosedale, was 82 and a native of New Orleans. He received the Korean Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal and numerous safety awards.

Survived by a daughter, Patricia Ann Carreras Pankey, New Orleans; a son, Michael Paul Carreras, River Ridge; brothers, Hillary David "Dave" and Paul Eugene "Gene" Carreras, both of Rosedale; stepbrother, Roland Dardenne of Spring, Texas; stepchildren, Geralyn D. "Cootie" Achee and John Timothy "Tim" Doiron; three nephews, Mark, Glen and Paul Carreras; two nieces, Marsha D. Reese and Christy D. Peterson; six grandchildren, Mike, Andrea and Lauren Carreras, Edward Pankey, Stephen Pankey and Tracey Carreras Parish; and a great-granddaughter, Carmen Fay Carreras. Preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Chauvin "Jerry" Carreras; parents, Elizabeth Picket Hooper and Edward Sylvarius Carreras Sr.; stepfather, John Roland Dardenne; and brothers, Joseph Ellis Sylvarius Carreras and Edward Sylvarius Carreras Jr.

He was a graduate of Shady Grove High School. He was a member of Grosse Tete-Rosedale Lions Club, life member of Louisiana Lions Eye Foundation and League for Crippled Children. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and traveling.
