Pioneer Resident Died Last Evening
Mrs. Helen Van Valkenburg Dies At Home On Poplar Street
Mrs. Helen Van Valkenburg, who was born in Battle Creek and has lived here all her life, passed away last evening at her home, 43 Poplar street, after an illness, which has lasted for several years.
Mrs, Van Valkenburg, whose maiden name was Helen Clark, was born in 1840, and her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Clark, pioneer residents of this city. The Clark home was on West Main street in what is now the business part of the city. Mrs. Van Valkenburg has always been of a retiring nature and has never mingled much in society.
The member of the surviving family consist of her husband, John Van Valkenburg, three sons, Clark and Charles of this city, and Byron, of Detroit, four sisters, Mrs. Delia McMillan and Mrs. Garrett Snyder, of this city, Mrs. Jennie Cady, of Iowa, and Mrs. Fred Clark of Detroit, and two bothers, James Clark, of Frankfort, Indiana, and Samuel Clark, of Battle Creek.
Funeral services will be held at the residence on Friday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. William S. Potter will officiate and internment will be made in Oak Hill cemetery.
