Thelma Lois Bryson passed away January 31, 2007, after a short hospitalization. Thelma was born July 9, l911, in Villisca, IA, where she grew up. She completed her teacher certification course at Simpson College and taught school in Iowa throughout the 1930s. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps/Women's Reserve during World War II as an instructor in flight training programs, and afterwards received her MA in Education from Colorado State College at Greeley. In 1950 she moved to California with her sister Lena Bryson and daughter Jane, and continued her teaching career at Oak Park Elementary School, where she taught second grade until 1977. After her retirement, Thelma enjoyed travel and volunteer work for many years. Up until her death she continued to follow politics with interest and was an avid worker of crossword puzzles. Thelma was an enthusiastic member and worker in a number of organizations, including Diablo Vista Retired Teachers Association, Friends of Meals on Wheels, Concord United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Church Women United, Mt. Diablo Woman's Club, Prevent Blindness of Northern CA, Concord Senior Citizens Club, and the Mary Elizabeth Inn Auxiliary. Thelma is survived by her daughter, Jane Bryson, of Concord, her nephew, Richard Bryson, of Tulsa, OK, and nieces Mildred McClelland and Maxine Lewis of Villisca, IA, Mary Weston and Marcella Jarvis of Red Oak, IA, and Martha Tibken of Cumberland, IA. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lena Bryson, of Concord, and brothers A.J. Bryson, Everett Bryson, Roy Bryson and Elmo Bryson of Villisca, IA
