Lester W. Moore of Bloomingrose, W.Va., died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at his home after a long illness.
He was born Jan. 14, 1927, on Dawes Mountain, Dawes, W.Va., a son of the late Henry and Ethel Harper Moore.
He was a veteran of World War II and member of the Mount Herman Baptist Church, Joe's Creek, W.Va. He loved singing and playing Gospel music, and he made more than 2,000 singing appearances. He was known for being an accomplished mandolin player where he played Blue grass Gospel music. He was also known for his recitation of John 3:16.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Alzena " Doll " Dayless Moore; and a son, Timothy Moore; a sister, Irene Moore Linville.
He is survived by his wife, Maggie Ellen Scarbro Adkins Moore; a daughter, Gloria Sue Kinder of Racine, W.Va.; two sons, Lester Ray of Peytona, W.Va., and Darris Lee of Bloomingrose; three stepdaughters, Joyce Peters of Chattsworts, Ga., Ellen Dotson of Seth, W.Va., and Connie Ferrell of Orgas, W.Va.; three stepsons, Hubert Adkins Jr. of Chattsworts, Ga., Frankie and Leon Adkins, both of Orgas; a sister, Verna Foster of Dawes, W.Va.; 20 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at the Armstrong Funeral Home Chapel, Whitesville, W.Va., with the Rev. Ronnie Santonio and the Rev. Roy Runion officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Dawes Mountain, Dawes, W.Va., with military graveside rites by VFW Post No. 5578, Madison, W.Va.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Armstrong Funeral Home.
