From the Manhattan Mercury, May 7, 1943

"The body of Otto E. Lantz about 50, was found in his farmhouse at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Lantz, who lived alone about 14 miles southeast of Manhattan in the Deep Creek neighborhood, apparently died of a heart ailment Friday night, said Dr. Clarkson, coroner. Clarkson, called the Wabaunsee country coroner and was asked by him to make the investigation.

The deceased was last seen Friday in Manhattan. He spent the day in Manhattan and went home Fridya evening. Neighbors did not see him Saturday or Sunday and when his chickens and cows were still unfed and unwatered Monday, investigated. They found him dead in bed.

He is survived by a sister, Mr.s W. H. Hower, Hutchinson and a half brother Will Bleen, who lives in California. He was born in Stettin, Germany and came to this country with his parents when he was 11 months old. ....He lived in Manhattan for 25 years. ...

Lantz, a bachelor, was employed as an auto mechanic in Manhattan until recently and has many friends here. Among other places, he worked for Walter Moore, the present postmaster, when Mr. Moore had a Ford Garage here."
