Richard D., youngest son, was born September 20 1904 on the family farm south of Moville which is now the Gordon Montange farm. He attended rural schools. On February 12, 1923 he married Amanda Florence Jahn. She was born February 12, 1905 at Oto, Iowa to Gustaf and Christina (Bremer) Jahn. She attended rural schools. The couple farmed in the Moville area from 1923-1936. In 1936, they moved to town and went into the trucking business. In 1939, he bought the Standard Oil Station which is now the location of the Casey's Store on the corner of Main Street. For eleven years he operated the station and had a trucking business with the help of his four sons. They resided in Moville until 1952, when they returned to the farm for three years and then came back into town for the remainder of their lives.
Richard served six years as mayor of Moville beginning in 1958. He was a member of the Woodbury County Fair Board for 30 years serving as secretary and also served as president of the State Fair Managers Assocation for Iowa. Richard was a member of the Moville Fire Department and served as Fire Chief. Richard died on July 10, 1983. Amanda worked as a technician in central service in the old Methodist Hospital later St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City from 1956-1972. Amanda was a member of Moville United Methodist Church and long time member of United Methodist Women, MovilleWomen's Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She died December 14, 1976. They are buried in the Arlington Cemetery near Moville.
