Wilfrid G. Benton, 91, Newry, died Wednesday at Altoona Regional.

He was born in Pittsburgh, son of the late John G. and Eleanora (Saalinger) Benton. He married Doris M. Long on June 25, 1942.

Surviving are his wife of almost 70 years; two sons: Roderick (Julia) and Laird (Ann), both of Duncansville; two granddaughters: Stacey Pugh (Ryan) and Gillian Benton; a sister, Anna Mae Helsel of Clearwater, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason; a sister, Mary Smith; and three brothers: Harry, George and Charles.

Wilfrid was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He retired from SKF in 1984, where he worked in electrical maintenance, and he previously had worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a charter member of the Newry Lions Club. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Liebegott-Brown Funeral Home Inc., 1218 Fourth Ave., Duncansville. A committal service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery chapel, officiated by Pastor Michael Rhyne.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Church Building Fund.
