Funeral services for former Carlton resident Ella May Crawford of Newberg will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, in the chapel at Macy & Son Funeral Directors. Elder Bruce Smith will officiate.

Visitation is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Feb. 21-22, in the chapel. Interment will be conducted at the Evergreen Memorial Park Mausoleum in McMinnville.

Mrs. Crawford died at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland on Monday, Feb. 18, 2008. She was 81.

Born in Aztec, N.M., on Nov. 7, 1926, she was the daughter of Carl and Ella May (Wood) Smith.

After graduating from high school she worked at an Army munitions factory in Ogden, Utah, during World War II.

She married Harry Crawford and they moved to the Carlton area. The couple provided a home for many children over the years. Except for five years in Sheridan, she made Carlton her home until she relocated to Newberg in 2005.

She and her husband worked for the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office for many years. She loved to fish and camp.

Mrs. Crawford is survived by a son, George of Everett, Wash.; two stepsons, Dale of McMinnville and Bill of Salem; a brother, Bruce Smith of Hurricane, Utah; two sisters, Mabel Harrison and Carlee Smith of Portland; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; by brothers Bud and Robert Smith, and by sisters Mary Jo Candaux and Lila Durm.
