Our community was saddened by the death of JOHN SEE which occurred at his home at Kloten on Sunday evening, Sept. 15, after an illness of one month’s duration. He was taken ill on August 15 and although everything possible was done for him there was little hope for his recovery from the beginning. Drs. N. J. Knauf and J. J. Minahan, were with him and Mrs. Almeda Niles assisted in nursing him but to no avail, his hour had come.
John See, a son of John Joseph and Mary Maurer See, was born in the town of Brothertown May 7, 1869. He remained at home until May 3, 1892 when he was united in marriage to Anna Popp, daughter of Ferdinand Popp, and they settled on the Emil Krause place which he had purchased the same year, and which has since been their home. He improved the place in every way rebuilding the home, and also a large dancing hall which he conducted until taken ill.
He possessed good business qualifications and it was through his efforts that the Kloten Local Union was organized for the purpose of Marketing and shipping livestock to Chicago and Milwaukee. He had full charge of the business since its organization and handled it to the satisfaction of the entire membership. He was a public spirited man interested in the welfare of the community of which he was a part and served his district as school clerk, treasurer and director for many years. He was also a trustee of St. Elizabeth’s congregation, of which he was always a staunch supporter.
John See was a good man and citizen, loyal and true to his friends and devoted to this family, and today his passing is deplored by all who knew him.
He is survived by his widow, five sons, Joseph F., Edmund B., Frank W., Andrew J., Victor B. and three daughters, Mrs. Henry Portman of Stockbridge, Mrs. John Thuecks of Brothertown, Miss Frances See at home and six grandchildren.
He also leaves four stepbrothers, Edw. Wettstein of Stockbridge, Anton Wettstein of Brothertown, Joseph Wettstein of Calumet Harbor, Louis Winkler of Kloten, and two sisters, Mrs. Frances Miracle of Wausau and Mrs. Lambert Daun of Stockbridge.
The Funeral service was held in St. Elizabeth’s church, Solemn Requiem Mass being celebrated by Rev. Fr. Joseph Rauch, the pastor assissted by Rev. Fr. H. E. Hunck of Chilton as deacon.
