She was born February 3, 1921 in Metamora, IN to Joseph Griffin & Mattie (Callahan) Cox, both deceased. She married Robert L. Cox on June 13, 1941 and he preceded her in death on January 28, 1987.
Nellie was a 1940 graduate of Morton Memorial High School. She was in housekeeping many years. She worked at the Durbin Hotel in Rushville and the Holiday Inn in Shelbyville.
She is survived by a daughter, Elaine Warfield of Shelbyville and her grandchildren, Roni Scroggham of Shelbyville, Jeri & husband Jason Higdon of Rushville and Lynne Warfield & Michael & wife Shannon Warfield both of Shelbyville, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
In addition to her husband and parents, Nellie was preceded in death by a 17 month old daughter, Vivian Sue Cox and a brother, Lonnie Griffin.
Services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, May 17 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville, where friends are welcome to visit from 5 until 8 PM on Wednesday.
Burial will be in Rushville's East Hill Cemetery. Pastor of Care Merry Popplewell and Chaplain Edy Stack will preside.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of South Central Indiana.
