Henry was the son of John K. Loughlin, Sr. and Eleanor "Ellen" Sweeney. He was the brother of Dennis Joseph Loughlin M.D., William H. Loughlin, Mary Helen Loughlin Willemin, and John Kane Loughlin, Jr. In about 1892 Henry married Mary E. McEvoy. They had no children. Even though his father died when he was 6 years old and his mother died when he was 17 years old Henry went onto to became a prominent lawyer in Philadelphia. Henry worked as Assistant Solicitor to the Sheriff in Philadelphia, worked for the firm Dallas and Crawford and also served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1896. Henry and his wife were quite generous to his family, leaving money for several generations of Loughlins, and to the community, leaving money to the University of Pennsylvania Law School and the St. Charles Borremeo Seminary, both of which continue to give out awards to students in his name. Henry also put his nephew John K. Loughlin through law school. Henry was a world traveler as well. His niece Mary Loughlin Hickey wrote years later that she fondly remembered her Uncle Henry and his wife Mary. She looked forward to seeing him after his world travels because he always brought something back for his nieces and nephews.
