John K. was the son of John K. Loughlin, Sr. and Eleanor "Ellen" Sweeney Loughlin. He was the brother of Dennis Joseph Loughlin M.D., William H. Loughlin, Mary Helen Loughlin Willemin and Henry Clay Loughlin, Esq. On 10 Feb 1886 John married Eva Marie Cantwell in Providence, Rhode Island and became the father of 9 children: Caroline "Carrie" E Loughlin McNally, Henry "Harry" Clay Loughlin, Edward C. Loughlin, Kathleen Marie Loughlin Prince, Eleanor Loughlin, Evelyn Loughlin Vanderslice, Mary L. Loughlin Hickey, John "Jack" Kane Loughlin III and Alice F Loughlin. They raised their children in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. John K. worked as a bookkeeper and later served as secretary for Maurer & Sons (a lamp shade fringe and textile manufacturing company).
