Clara's death record, as well as the 1910 census says she was born in 1823, contrary to the date listed on the stone.

Clara was the daughter of James Warren Lamont Mitchell and Julia Gilbert. Julia's mother was a Bailey and a Quaker. Clara's father went by the name Warren. Clara's grandfather, Thomas Mitchell, founded the second mill in town, known as Coffin Mills, on the northern end of Quaker Ridge Road, where Clara was raised. Clara had two known siblings, Henry and Ellen. Clara's mother died when Clara was a child.

On December 4, 1845 Clara married Charles B. Collier. (This marriage record incorrectly lists Clara as Clarissa A, and also incorrectly lists her parents as Joseph Mitchell and Lucy Lombard. Joseph and Lucy had a daughter Clarissa A., who was born in 1817, married Christopher Covel, died in 1854 and is buried in the Additon Cemetery. Clarissa was Clara's father's first cousin.)

Charles operated a store on Welcome Hill Road. Charles and Clara had no children, and he died in 1852 after a long illness. Charles' name is inscribed in this same monument, though he is actually buried at the nearby Additon cemetery.

After Charles died, Clara remarried on October 21, 1852 to James M. Crockett. James and Clara were distant cousins, as both were descended from the Gilbert family of Leeds. James served in the Civil War during 1862 and 1863.

James and Clara also had no children. They lived in Lewiston and Auburn where James worked as a laborer and farmer. In 1872 the couple permanently settled in the Keene's Mills area of Turner. They lived in the house on Parish Hill Road known as the Alvin Gilmore house. James died in 1893.

Clara's quilts and rugs sometimes won first prize at the state fair. In the 1910 census Clara was listed as head of household. She lived alone in Turner and was self-supporting.

Clara left behind a letter detailing her Mitchell family history, which is easily found online. There were also newspaper articles written about her life.
