He died at Heartland Villa Care & Rehabilitation Center. He was a member of Hawesville Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in the Korean War.
He graduated from Beechmont High School in 1947, from Kentucky Wesleyan University with a BA Degree in 1958 and from Western Kentucky University with MA Degree in 1963. Tobe was employed by the Hancock County Board of Education where he served as a teacher, bus driver, guidance counselor and principal.
His interests included travel, genealogy, playing basketball with special friends and playing pool at the senior center. He was a member of the Hancock County Historical Society since its beginning in 1973 and volunteered many hours at the museum. He served on the Selective Service Board for a number of years and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Tobe was scorekeeper for Hornet basketball for many years, an avid Kentucky basketball fan, a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers and the Boston/Milwaukee /Atlanta Braves baseball teams.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Gabbert and four brothers, Melvin, Emerson, Thurman and Leroy Young.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patsy Robbins Young, a son, Robin Dale Young (Helen) of Owensboro and a grandson, Christopher Andrew Young of Owensboro; two sisters, Lula Grace Young of Hawesville and Mary Edith Newton (Carlos) of Lewisport and many beloved nieces and nephews.
