Fritz was born in Sweden and arrived in the United States in 1891. He was a farmer, growing cash crops which included strawberries. He also worked in the tobacco trade as a packer. His farm consisting of a large home, two large sheds, and a barn was located at 163 Pratt Street in Glastonbury Much of the northern side of Pratt Street was in the midst of shade grown tobacco fields.
He married Magdalena Neuscheler in 1926.

He sometimes took in boarders.

He had several farm vehicles and allowed the neighborhood children to play cowboys on the old wooden buckboards. He allowed the same children to coast their sleds downhill to a brook on the edge of his fields.
