Couple’s 11 chidren to attend fete for William Merediths. “Not a one of our children could ever say he heard an argument between his father and mother, the father of 11 said yesterday. He is William Meredith, Sr., who, with his wife, the former Miss Lula N Basham, 76, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary tomorrow with an open house at their home, 2310 Greenwood. My lady ( that’s what Meredith calls his wife) just never would fuss, he added The Lord has been so good to us, Meredith continued, There aren’t many couples who can celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary and have all their children with them. All the children we had are living. Besides the no-fussing rule, Meredith attributed the general good health of the family to hard work. I worked hard and I’ve taught my children that hard work never harmed anybody, he said. The Merediths are natives of Grayson County, Meredith was in the timber business and did some farming before the family moved here from Shrewsbury in 1923. Seven years ago Meredith retired from his post as toolroom foreman for Louisville & Nashville Railroad. The 11 Meredith children and some of the 22 grandchildren and four great grandchildren will be present for the anniversary celebration. Two of the children are members of the Louisville Police Department. They are Emmett, who lives at 1540 Hemlock, on the force for 32 years, and Oscar, of 2514
Kentucky, in the department for 9 years. The two other sons are William Meredith , Jr., 3107 Michigan, and Harry Meredith, 6913 Triangle Drive. Four of the Merediths’ seven daughters live in Louisville. They are Mrs Kenneth K (Beulah) Hood, Bridwell Drive; Mrs Samuel ( Mary Kathleen) Thompson, 701 Baxter; Mrs. George (Juanita) Brownfield, 2506 W Burnett, and Mrs Charles (Frankie Jean) Cahill, 2108 Grand. Daughters Mrs Carleton (Lela ) Smith and Mrs. Ted (Lucille) Marsh, both live in Battle Creek, Michigan and Mrs Edwin E (Ora) Nelson lives in St. Louis.
