Served in the Civil War. Pvt Co H Hood's 4th Inf Regt. This unit was sent to Virginia, served in the Army of Northern Virginia, under Robert E Lee. He had a special love for the 4th, many in this regiment had served in the Mexican American war together... This unit had a 95 percent success rate in the civil war, and suffered massive casualties as a result. They saw much action, and were as a result depended upon in tough situations. This Texas unit was different from most other units outside of Texas, in that, the unit was all Texan's most from the same areas and knew each other. Other units were a mix of many different units, soldiers were from many different places, this no doubt helped in their successes.

William came to Texas in January 1836, with the family, he was born in Lowndes Co AL where his family arrived prior to 1830.

His family arrived in Mustang Prairie, later to became Houston County Texas, in Jan of 1836, formerly, this area was part of the massive, Nacogdoches Co TX.

William's Grandfather Stephen White, was on the petition to form Houston County, named after Sam Houston. Wm's father Tillman B White, owned a general store in Walker county, Sam Houston was a frequent coutomer of the store, and ran a 'Tab', as most folks did in those days, a record that survives in the Texas archives today...

Tbere was a William H White in Houston Co for many years that was a large land owner himself, I am not sure it was our William at this point.

William lived in Houston then Walker Counties, and finally back to Houston County where he departed this life.
