James Christopher Garthofner a Winifred Rancher and Veteran of the Spanish-American War passed away on Sunday morning at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Fort Harrison in Helena, where he was a patient since July 7 of this year.

Mr. Garthofner was born on May 12, 1873 in Clayton Co, Iowa.
He enlisted in the Company A of the G 2 regiment on July 24, 1898 and was honorably discharged as a private on October 30, 1898.

Surviving are two brothers: Joseph Garthofner,of Rush City, Minnesota and Gar Garthofner of Hillburgh, Oregon:
Two sisters: Mr and Mrs JT Hagauza, and Mrs. William Huff, both of Britt, Iowa.
Three sons: Ben of Winifred, MT, Stanley of Wilder, MT, and Donald of Boulder, MT.
A daughter, Mrs LaVina Childers of Jordan, MT. and three grand children.

The body is at the Opp and Conrad mortuary and is expected to be forward to Miles City, MT for services and burial.
