LESLIE (LEE) COON
KEOSAUQUA - Leslie F. (Lee) Coon, 54, of Ottumwa, a former resident of Keosauqua, died Saturday at 11:15 p.m. at the home of a neighbor.
The son of Milton and Maretta Coon, he was born July 27, 1921 at Avant, Okla. He was reared in Backus, Minn. and served with the U.S. Marines in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
He married Florence Loeffler on Jun 7, 1945 at Elko, Nev. She survives. They lived in Idaho until his release from the service in 1946, when they moved to Keosauqua.
The have resided in Ottumwa since 1973.
He was a long distance truck driver until being disabled in an accident in 1974.
He was employed by the city, school and municipal power company in Keosauqua. He served as assistant fire chief in Keosauqua for many years and was active in the American Legion.
Also surviving are a son, Virgle of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Cross of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mrs. Louann Harness of Ottumwa; four grandchildren; a twin brother, Weslie, and a sister, Bessie Elyea, both of Backus, Minn.
The service will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, the Rev. Harold Schnedler officiating.
Burial will be in Fellows cemetery with military rites by the Beer-Barker American Legion Post. Memorial gifts may be made to the Keosauqua Pulic Library.
