Services for Eugene Thomas Langston, 83, of 1707 N. 125th St., East Moline, are 11 a.m. Friday at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, with military rites conducted by East Moline American Legion 227.
Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary and one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Unit of Veteran's Home in Quincy.
Mr. Langston died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Blessing Hospital, Quincy.
He was born Oct. 20, 1914, in Matherville, the son of Thomas James and Mary Jane Purvis Langston. He married Dorothea M. Carey Dec. 24, 1933, in Kahoka, Mo. She died March 31, 1981.
He worked in maintenance in the General Service Administration at the Rock Island Post Office for 23 years.
He was a WW II Marine Corps veteran and received the Purple Heart.
He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 4607 in Semona, Iowa, and also was post commander of American Legion Post 180 in the same town. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans in Scott County.
He was a volunteer driver for Veteran Administration in Iowa City and liked to fish and hunt.
Survivors include brothers, Robert Langston, Albuquerque, N.M., Dave Langston, Dallas, Texas, and Howard Langston, Davenport; sisters, Jamesina Frantz, Davenport, Alice Fontenoy, Moline, Marilyn Hahn, Albuquerque, and Beverly White, Moline. He resided with Robert and Darlene Carlson for 10 years before going to the Alzheimers Unit at Veterans Home in Quincy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothea, parents and two brothers.
