Alfred E. Waltz - St. Matthews

Alfred E. Waltz, 84, of 101 Clarendon Ave., died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, at the Dorn V.A. Medical Center in Columbia.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg, with the Rev. Patricia Mayfield and the Rev. Fred Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg.

Mr. Waltz was born April 17, 1923, in Calhoun County, the son of the late Willie Waltz and the late Viola Zeigler Waltz. He served in the U.S. Army in the First Infantry and was a veteran of World War II and also served in the Invasion of Normandy and he was a recipient of The Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church in St. Matthews.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mrs. Charlotte Wiles Waltz of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Paul Peck of West Columbia; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Michelle Waltz of West Columbia, Gene and Cyndee Waltz of Orangeburg, Mark E. Waltz of Columbia; two grandchildren, Todd Peck and Tyler Rhodes; one sister, Mary Polin of Orangeburg; one brother, Robert L. Waltz of St. Matthews and a number of nieces and nephews.
