Lonnie Eugene Grammer, 83, passed away at 6:15 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2012, in Herrin Hospital.

Lonnie was born Aug. 27, 1928, in Benton to Archie S. and Stella M. (Bradford) Grammer.

He married Verla Mae Johnston on Sept. 19, 1948, in Bonnie. She survives in Royalton.

He is also survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Glenna Renee and Jock Lefler of Royalton, Cynthia Dawn and Lee Snyder of Murphysboro, Rebecca Lynn and Michael Land of Glendale, Ariz., and Robin Michelle and Mark Hamrick of Knoxville, Tenn.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Mark Steven and Vickie Grammer of Royalton, Jeffry Lane and Hilda Grammer of Okeechobee, Fla., and Kevin Vern Grammer of Royalton; a daughter-in-law, Ivy Grammer of Mulkeytown; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; three brothers: Archie Grammer and Sharon of Waterford, Mich., Darrell Grammer and Judy and Carroll Grammer, all of Eddyville, Ky.; four sisters: Ramona Tasky, Ruby Talley, Carolyn Williams, all of Benton, and Sharon (Stan) Moser of Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Grammer of Valier and Cathy Grammer of Saltillo, Miss.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Lonnie Eugene Grammer Jr. and Dennis Bradley; and five brothers, Billy, John, Don, Charles and Carl Grammer.

Mr. Grammer was a member of Royalton Church of the Nazarene.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the former Royalton VFW. He was an active and longtime member of Elkville Senior Citizens. He retired from SIU as a building custodian in 1984.

Services for Mr. Grammer will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, in Royalton Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. David Sorensen officiating and Jeffry Grammer delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Valier with military graveside rites courtesy of Zeigler and Orient American Legion, West Frankfort VFW and Marion National Guard Flag detail. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Grammer may be made to Royalton Church of the Nazarene or Elkville Senior Citizens.
