Alma Louella Baker, 95, of Irving since 1946, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012 in her residence at the Emeritus retirement Community, surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born November 6, 1916 in Hunt County, Texas to parents Barney B. and Stella F. Clark Barron. Alma, or MeeMaw, as she became known in recent years, was a housewife, mother, and culinary wizard. She was an accomplished seamstress and worked many hours plying her talents in the family's home at 1003 Harlan in Irving. Alma and Wallace were married in 1934 and first moved to Irving in 1946. They built the home on Harlan in 1949, and it was the Baker family home for the next 5 ½ decades. She was a member and founding force of First Baptist Church of Irving and also the Bible Survey Class. Alma was also a member of Order of Eastern Star, 777, of Grand Prairie. She is preceded in death by her husband of more than 54 years, Wallace Wendell Baker, daughter Ileeta Baker Watson, and sister Bonnie Maroney.

Survivors include her daughter Luquitta Fisher and husband Bill of The Colony; granddaughters Danna Oxford, Robie Dodson, Candace Gilbert, and Natalee Watson; and great grandchildren Peyton Oxford, Logan and Cameron Gilbert, and Owen, Ellie, and Rosamund Dodson. A third Gilbert child is due to arrive in September.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, May 11, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Irving with Rev. John Durham and Pastor Jonathan Dodson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
