Doris J Platt Blakeslee Henderson, 88, formerly of Pleasant Street, Corry, died at the Corry Manor on Thursday, May 10, 2012. She was born on November 16, 1923, in Spartansburg, a daughter of the late Harry and Bessie May Shreve Platt. Doris was raised and educated in Spartansburg and attended Spartansburg High School. She worked for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center as a practical nurse and worked in various VAMCs throughout the United States. She attended St Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Corry. Doris enjoyed traveling and traveled to most of the states of the United States. She also enjoyed crocheting and crossword puzzles. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death on March 16, 2007, by her husband, Donald Henderson, whom she married on July 13, 1983; three sisters, Helen Platt, Florence Bates and Vivian Blue; four brothers, Richard, Ernest, Glen and Bruce Platt; and a granddaughter, Michelle Buser. Doris is survived by two daughters, Dora Lee Miller and her husband, J Daniel, of Clarion, and Iona M Franz and her husband, Edward, of The Villages, FL; two sons, Dale L Blakeslee of Lincolnville, and I Mark Blakeslee and his wife, Rita, of Centerville; and a brother, James Platt and his wife, Irene, of Corry. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at St Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 203 W Washington St, Corry, on Thursday, May 17, 2012, at 11 am. The Rev Mark A Hoffman will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Spartansburg. The Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N Center St, Corry, is handling arrangements.
