Joyce was born in Centreville, Mississippi on April 10, 1938, the first of five children born to William David Anderson and Katherine "Katie" Elizabeth Haynes Anderson. She was a member of the Woodville United Methodist Church. After finishing high school in three years, she attended Mississippi State College for Women and obtained a B.S. degree in Science. Following her graduation Joyce taught science in Arkansas and Mississippi schools. In more recent years she provided private tutoring and was a librarian at the Woodville Public Library.
Joyce is survived by one brother, William David Anderson Jr. and three sisters, Gloria Dean "Deanie" Bradley, Lily May Revette and Jonnie Merrie Bisanar and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
