Alice had a RH blood factor problem. And she suffered seemingly death-encouraging injuries when her 1 1/2 year-old sister Jane unlocked her cradle and it rolled down a hill, crashing. Jane forever felt responsible for her death. Her actual death occured at the home of family relatives Crawford & Priscilla Alter who lived on a nearby Westmoreland County farm next to the farm of Mary Hastings Clement and her husband. Crawford was a cousin of the Hastingses. She is thought to have died from the injuries resulting from the accident, but that is not known for certain. Interment was on July 17, 1899.
