William's first wife was Lillian M. Vermillion, who he married on 7 Sep 1884 in Clay County, Missouri. They had one daughter, Virginia Lillian Rone, who married John Donald Wimsey. Lillian divorced William in 1893 and took custody of Virginia.

He married his second wife, Mary Alice Richardson, on 27 Dec 1894, recorded in Richmond, Ray County, Missouri.

Leota Rone born 1887 married Grover C. Bate. She later married Perry Arthur Hale and then John Robert Heldenbrand.
Ethel Adams Rone born 1889 married Carl Henry Adams. In her 90s she married Joseph Amos.
