The son of Christian Schumann, Jr. and Anna Helfrich, Frank served in the United States Army during World War I. He was a private first class when he received his discharge from the service.

Frank married Bertha C. Hartmann on 12 Nov 1923 in Kampsville, Calhoun County, Illinois. He was a farmer, and they were the parents of 7 children.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #1083. He belonged to St. John's Lutheran Church in Kampsville.

Frank died at the home of his daughter, following a long illness. At the time of his death, he was 80 years, 7 months and 30 days old.

He was survived by his wife, Bertha; 2 sons; 5 daughters; 16 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Roy Schumann and Philip Schumann, both of Kampsville; and 1 sister, Tillie Sibley of Kampsville.

Frank was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Visitation was held at the C. C. Hanks Funeral Home in Kampsville on 14 Apr 1969. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. the following afternoon at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kampsville.

Frank's wife, Bertha, passed away in 1998.
