Ora Jay Lighty married Zylpha Ann Atwood on Mar 25, 1923 in Liberal, Seward Co, KS. They had 5 children- William Orville, Orlan Ora, Leland Leon, Alfred Allen and Orda Mae Barbara.

Ora J. Lighty, 93, of Canon City died at St. Thomas More Hospital Feb. 4, 1993. He was born Nov. 23, 1899, in Jetmore, Kan., to William and Barbara (Shanty) Lighty.


Mr. Lighty spent his early life in Kansas. After his marriage on March 25, 1923 in Satana, Kan., to Zlypha Atwood, he moved to Eastern Colorado, where the family engaged in dryland farming until 1935. The family then came to Canon City, where Mr. Lighty worked at a laborer for a time before opening the Help Yourself Laundry on South Ninth Street in 1939.


Upon his retirement in 1962, he purchased a small farm in Lincoln Park, where he enjoyed raising livestock. In the early 1980's, Mr. and Mrs. Lighty established their residence at the Royal Gorge Manor. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.


Survivors include his wife; Zlypha; four children; William O. (Joan K.) Lighty, Colorado Springs; Orlan O. (Betty) Lighty, Citrus Heights, Calif.; Alfred A. (Doris) Lighty, Santa Anna, Calif.; Orda Mae (Russell) Bean, Castle Rock; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.


Mr. Lighty was preceded in death by an infant son, three brothers and two sisters.


Services will be held Monday, Feb. 8, 10 a.m. at the First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Allen Davis officiating. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery.


Memorial contributions may be made to the First Assembly of God Memorial Fund through Wilson Funeral Home.
