Former Alaska resident T. JOHN BEEK, 83, of Hayden, Idaho, died May 17, 2002, in Spokane, Wash. No service is planned.

Mr. Beek was born June 3, 1918, in Montpelier, Ohio, to John and Edith (Creek) Beek. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed at Cornwall, England; Scotland; and Paris. After the war, he worked as a cabinetmaker and builder. He retired from Fort Richardson. Mr. Beek began homesteading in 1961 on 160 acres in the Matanuska Valley. On Sept. 6, 1968, he married Alice Monroe in Anchorage. The Beeks moved to the Spokane area 10 years ago from Sandpoint, Idaho.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; children and their spouses, Dan and Stacey Beek of Anchorage, Jen and Dan Burt, Susan and Dale Lowell, Corinne and Jerry Sholander, and Devryn and Richard McCumber, all of the Lower 48; brother and sister, Roger Beek of Ohio and Anita Nichols of Michigan; 21 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Beek was preceded in death by his brothers, Lyle and Larue; and sisters, Hazel Helmer and Rachel Smith. Memorial contributions may be sent to Gideons Society, P.O.
