Shawnee resident Edna Fern Benson, 83, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, at her home.

She was born June 17, 1921, in Shawnee to Shan Lee and Eva (Truelove) Lee.

In March 1948, she married Donald Hurley Benson in Wichita, Kan. She was a homemaker and wrote poetry. Many of her poems were published in The Shawnee News-Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and brother, Glen Pruitt.

Survivors include six children, Harry Dean Benson of Oklahoma City, LaGlenda Bohannon and husband, Don, of the home, James Donald Benson and wife, Carol, of Tyler, Texas, Donna Louise Campbell and husband, Roger, of Plano, Texas, Thomas E. Benson of Shawnee and LaShanna Eve Talton and David of Shawnee; grandchildren, John and Sandi Bohannon, Debbie and Richard Downey, Allen Bohannon, Pamela and Ian Thompson, Thomas Benson Jr., Keith and April Wheeler, Jennifer and Cedrick Barkus, Angela and Michael Haynes, Byron Talton, Devin and husband, all of the Shawnee area, Sally and husband, John Benson and wife, Darrell Benson and wife, Danny Campell and wife, Cheryl and husband, all from out of state; 27 great-grandchildren; sister, Frankie Z. Bozeman of Shawnee; brother, Tony Jack Lee and wife, Ruth, of Shawnee; and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Fairview Baptist Church in Shawnee. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
