"Uncle Sam" Allen, the well~known colored man who resided in or near town so many years, died in Mt. Sterling last Thursday of Bright's disease. Funeral Friday and burial in the colored cemetery in the West End of Owingsville. He belonged to the Allen family during slave times. He was born in Bourbon Co. 72 years ago but lived most of his life in Bath Co. His wife "Aunt Ader", died a few years ago. A majority of their large family survives.
