In March of 1905 when Olga was nearly four years old , she moved with her family to Kandyiohi Township, Burke County, ND near Kenmare, ND. She could walk to Kandiyohi #1, the one room school house, from her parent's farm. From 1907 through 1916 she attended school with her siblings. She graduated from the 8th grade in 1916. Olga lived with her parents until her untimely death just 3 days after she turned 21 yrs old. Olga was the first to pass away in her family. She died of acute nephritis. Olga was a devote Christian and her beloved song was "Joy to the World the Savior's Singing" and that was her parting words as she slipped away.
The Kenmare Newspaper reported:
March 30, 1922
"Olga, the 21 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Nelson west of Kenmare passed away last Saturday after an illness of only a few days. Funeral services were held from Niobe (Baptist Church) yesterday afternoon. The parents have the sincere sympathy of the community in the death of their beloved daughter.
Mrs. Gust Hennix was called to the Peter G. Nelson home last Monday to be with her brother when his beloved daughter passed away. She was there just fifteen minutes when death called its prey. She remained there till Monday forenoon when she returned to her home in Niobe.
Mrs. Otto Carlson and Mrs. Arthur Leslie have been changing off assisting Mrs. Peter G. Nelson with her house work."
Olga was the first to pass away in her family. She died of acute nephritis.
