Thomas Edward Flynn was born in Gary, Indiana June 13, 1914, the first born of Michael Henry and Mary Ellen Walsh Flynn. He was born in the Schlitz Building in an apartment over his grandfather Michael Walsh's saloon. In 1933 he graduated from Lew Wallace High School. He then joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and served in Fort Knox, KY, Medaryville,IN and Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. He was discharged and returned home to Gary where he married his first wife Bertha Lustina. They had one child Michael Henry. Bertha passed away when Michael was just a baby, about 1939. In 1941 he married June Sark and they had two children Sheila and Timothy. Tom joined the Gary fire Department in 1938 and held every rank from private to First Assistant Chief. He retired from the fire dept in 1965. He then went to work for the US Postal service. In 1960 the Flynns left Gary and moved to the Merrillville area where they resided for many years until June died in 1984. Tom moved to Portage, IN and then to Beech Grove, IN with his son Tim until his death in 2006.
