Otto Emanuel CARLSON was the son of Per Carlson and Elna Lilienkuist. His father was a furniture maker in Malmohus, Sweden. In 1925 at age 18, he emigrated to the United States and eventually became a citizen in Ward County, ND.
He attended school in Peoria, IL where he learned the carpenter trade following his father's footsteps.
In 1930 he was working for his cousin Otto E. Nelson (son of Nils Nilsson and Elna Carlson) on his farm in Elmdale Township, Ward County, ND. Ruth HJORT worked at the same household. Later Ruth was a teacher in the one room school house that Peter G Nelson and Emma Carlson's children attended.
On Oct. 18, 1930 He married Ruth Evelyn Hjort, dau. of Nels Hjort and Cecilia Edmonds in Kenmare, ND. Otto was a farmer, painter and carpenter.

2. Lois E. Carlson Jorgensen m. Richard Jorgenson
