MAN WHO ONCE PLOWED FIELDS WHERE MCMINNVILLE STANDS DIES IN FOREST GROVE AT 92
BELLEVUE, Mar. 7 – William C. Arthur, 92 died at his home in Forest Grove Monday, Feb. 25 and funeral rites were held there Monday. He was buried at the Pike cemetery in Yamhill county beside his late wife.
Mr. Arthur was born in Clackamas county on Oct. 12, 1853 where he spent most of his boyhood until moving to the Bellevue vicinity with his parents. In the 1870s he married Emily Yokum who died a number of years ago.
Arthur was a pioneer native son of the state and at one time helped plow fields where the city of McMinnville now stands.
Survivors include seven children: Frances Wagonblast of McMinnville; Leander Arthur, Willamina; Fredrick Arthur, Valley Junction; Robert Arthur, Bellevue; Betta Arthur, Forest Grove; Ada Wilson, Clatskanie; and Ota Johnson, Sanfield.
