Berlin "Bill" Ankenbauer, 79, Kenmare, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, in a Minot hospital.

Berlin was born July 25, 1922, on the family farm west of Kenmare, ND, the son of Earl and Edith (Dollahon) Ankenbauer. He was raised on the family farm and attended country school in that area.

On April 28, 1944 he entered the United States Marine Corps and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on July 23, 1946. He returned to Kenmare and married Joy Jensen on April 7, 1948. The couple farmed and ranched west of Kenmare. Bill worked in the Ankenbauer Coal Mine for a time, and farmed for Earl Schwartz from 1954 to 1965, during which time he custom combined for two years. While farming and ranching he also worked as a mechanic and plumber. He sold his cattle in 1975 and retired from farming in 1999.
He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Kenmare.
Survivors: Wife, Joy, Kenmare; daughter, Holly (Jon) Westlake, Kenmare; son, Kim (Brenda) Ankenbauer, Washburn; six grandchildren, Kristen (J'Patrick) Fahn, Bismarck, Danielle Westlake and Torie Ankenbauer, both of Grand Forks, Tera and Candace Ankenbauer both of Washburn; brothers, Richard Ankenbauer, Missouri State, Robert (Ruth) Ankenbauer, Vancouver, WA, Alden "Joe" (Carol) Ankenbauer, Kenmare, and John (Dorothy) Ankenbauer, Kenmare; sisters, Beth Jones, Portland, OR, Kathryn Berney, Wichita, KS, Shirley (Don) Duff, Maplewood, MN; sisters-in-law, Vivian Ankenbauer, Mesa, AZ and Theresa Ankenbauer, Kenmare; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jolene Faye Ankenbauer; his parents; Earl and Edith (Dollahon) Ankenbauer, brothers, Foster and Forrest Ankenbauer; sister, Doreen Bushey; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Berney and Rupert Jones.
Funeral: Saturday, June 29, 2002, at 10:30 a.m., at United Methodist Church, Kenmare.
Visitation: Friday, June 28, 2002, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare.
Burial: Saturday at 1:30 p.m., at Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND
