LONG ILLNESS FATAL
Eugene Davis Dies at His Home on Thursday Evening – Burial at Montello
At 6 o'clock on Thursday evening Eugene Davis passed away at his home on Patch Street after an illness of two years with a complication of diseases. Mr. Davis had been confined to his bed for the past month and his condition was critical for a number of days prior to the end. The deceased was a native of Wisconsin, born in Packwaukee on October 14, 1857, and was therefore 61 years of age, when three years of age his parents moved to Montello, residing there until he was 22 years old. His marriage to Miss Amanda Eastman of Marquette took place on February 10, 1878. The late Mr. Davis was a stage driver from Montello to Princeton for years. The family resided at Portage for several years, coming to Stevens Point in 1890 and this city has since been the family home. Mr. Davis was in the employ of the old Wisconsin Central as a fireman in the local yards for years. He was compelled to give up this work two years ago when his health failed. On December 8, 1913, he was married to Mrs. Stella Peterson. One son was born of this union, who died at the age of three years. The surviving relatives include the widow and on step-daughter, one sister, Mrs. Nellie Walker of Mt. Airy, N.C.; one brother, Layton Davis of Stetsonville, Wisconsin and a half brother and half sister, Will Davis and Miss Jennie Davis of Montello. A Daughter, Miss Pearl, who was adopted after Mr. Davis' first marriage, also survives. The funeral will be held from the residence of the deceased at 9 o'clock Saturday morning and a service will follow at the Baptist Church, Rev. James Blake officiating. The remains will be taken to Montello for burial. The family and a number of friends will accompany the body.
