GEORGE J. WILLIS DEAD
Last Friday morning about 11:30 o'clock, George J. Willis, a prominent attorney of Upton, died at the Antlers Hotel in this city, after an illness of a few days duration, the cause of death being attributed to heart failure.
The deceased came down from Upton to the county seat to attend to legal business a few days prior to his death, and was taken ill, but it was thought his condition was not serious and his friends were shocked at the report of his death.
Undertaker Nicholes took charge of the remains and prepared them for shipment to Upton on Friday afternoon, the funeral being held yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, March 29th, the body being laid to rest in Upton Cemetery.
While the deceased had been a resident of Weston County for about ten years, very little was known of his relatives. In looking over his effects letter were found from a niece at Howard, Georgia, and a message was sent to her, but up to this time no response has been received from the message.
George Jackson Willis was born at Howard, Georgia, March 3, 1854, and died at Newcastle, Wyoming, March 24, 1916. He was a typical southerner, of a kindly disposition, charitable and good natured, always ready to extend a helping hand to those in need and through there characteristics had gained a host of admiring friends who mourn his sudden demise.
In his profession as an attorney and in his business transactions, he was shrewd, honest and upright, and not only will his loss be felt by his professional associates, but by the whole community.
