Eighth of nine children of William Bumpass, Sr., and Elizabeth "Betsy" Billings, who married in Davidson County, Tennessee, in 1804.

Granddaughter of William Bumpass of Hanover County, VA, and of William Billings and Mary Hardin of Halifax County, VA.

Tennessee Bumpass married John William Fletcher Rucker on 17 Jan 1849, in Davidson County. They made their home with her parents, from whom she inherited 50 acres of the family farm near Granny White Pike and Otter Creek Road.
