The Iberia Sentinel, March 1919

W.R. Short, another one of Iberia's oldest and highly respected citizens, died at his home here early Saturday morning of pneumonia fever. The deceased is widely known all over the county, having lived here all his life, during which time he has been engaged in farming, school teaching and the practice of law.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the town cemetery where the remains were laid to rest. The services were conducted by Sq. John Ferguson, Commander Iberia G.A.R. Post of which the deceased was a member.
IN MEMORIAM

On the 15th Day of March 1919, at Iberia, Mo., again the death Angel visited the ranks of the Veterans of the Civil War and called from our ranks here to the fastly increasing ranks of our Comrades on the Eternal Camping Ground, our comrade Wm. R. Short. Commander Short was born Feb. 8, 1844, in Miller County, Mo., age at his death 75 years, 1 month and 7 days. He enlisted in June 1864, in Co. E. 48th Mo. Inft. Vols., was discharged in June 1865. He studied law and was admitted to the bar while Judge George Miller was on the bench. He was married to Martha J. Shelton on the 16th day of January 1870, and of this union eight children were born, Charley who lives in Iberia; Mrs. J..L. Prock,, Iberia; Fred, Etterville; Elmer, St. James and Walter, Crocker, survive and were all present at the funeral. The other three children died several years ago. Besides the children he leaves a wife, brothers, sisters, and many relatives and friends to mourn his departure, but we have the blessed assurance that, though we die, yet shall we live again.

His Comrades extend their heart-felt sympathy to his loving wife and companion, children, brothers and sisters. All must bow to the will of an all wise God who doeth all things well. We know that the will of God is accomplished and we bow to His will.
