Leader of the Hester faction during the 'Porum Range War' of Muskogee County, Oklahoma. He fought against the Davis brothers (Sam, Cicero, Jack & Bob) over cattle stealing from 1902-1912.

During a shoot-out at Porum--at the ranch of Pony Starr,1/2 mile north east of Porum, on the morning of May 29th, 1911, three men died including Judge Hester's 18 year old son Cliff. Pony Starr and Joe Davis fought successfully against the 25 men group and escaped, riding horses south through the one street of Porum into the hills. They surrendered two days later and all charged dropped.

Some of the men that died during the 'Porum Range War': Cliff Hester, Mack Alfred, Cicero Davis, ex deputy Jesse Maxwell, two of his brothers A.E. Maxwell & George Maxwell and Deputy Jim Work. Men were whipped, threatened, barns were burned, fences cut, haystacks burned....
