Horace Phelps

ASHTON, Dec. 20, — Memorial services for Horace Fletcher Phelps were held Monday at the Community Methodist church, Ashton. The Rev. George Allen, pastor, conducted the services and preached a message of comfort on the theme: The Mission of Sorrow". The musical background for the service was provided by Mrs. Neal Barkus, organist and a vocal trio, Mrs. George Nedrow, Mrs. Richard Hummel and Mrs. John Van Duesen, who sang, "Lead, Kindly Light."

Horace Fietcher Phelps was born July 1, 1882 at LaSalle, Illinois, a son of Calvin A. and Rachel Caroline Phelps.

He married Anna E. Williams March 30, 1905 at Alma, Nebraska and they came to Ashton in October 1913.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Anna Phelps and three sons and three daughters: Charles F. Phelps, Scotia, California; Mrs. Ada Welch, Rexburg; Mrs. Nellie Balmer, William F. Phelps, Meredith Wayne Phelps all of Ashton, Mrs. Agnes Cotterell, Boise and 11 grandchildren.

The pallbearers were Vern Millers, Myron Jeppson, Clyde McCormick, Jack Williams, Leslie Hall and Arthur Wood. Flowers were carried by friends.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Kiser Funeral Home at Ashton. Burial was in the Pineview cemetery.
