Robert was the son of Archibald Crawford and his second wife, Margaret.

Robert married Emily Blackwell in Marshall Co, MS on May 31, 1838. They had three daughters: Caroline Margaret, Mary Elizabeth, and Sarah Robert Crawford.

Robert died in Old Lamar, Marshall Co, MS which later became a part of Benton Co, MS.

"Marriages & Deaths from MS Newspapers, Vol 1, 1837 - 1863", compiled by Betty Couch Wiltshire, published by Heritage Books, Inc, states: "April 24, 1844: Died in Lamar, on Saturday the 6th, Mr. Robert Crawford."

"The Southern Genealogist Exchange Quarterly, Issue 20, Winter 1961, page 6 contains a listing of tombstones described as "Old Cemetery 2 miles west of Lamar, Mississippi". Among the listings is:

Died in Marshall Co. April 6, 1844 aged 30 years.
