"Erskine D. Acker, aged eighty-five, died in Fox hospital, Oneonta, Wednesday afternoon as the results of burns received Monday morning when fire completely destroyed the small dwelling of his son, William Acker, in Skinnerville where he had made his home for the past two years ... Burial was made in Westford cemetery. Mr. Acker was born at Berne in 1858, the son of William and Hannah (Campbell) Acker and when a young man came to this locality. He married Miss Anne Pixley of Maple Valley and two sons were born to them, William and Edwin. Sometime after her death, he married Miss Claudell Sherman, Roseboom, and another son, Roy, was born. She passed away when Roy was a small child. Several years later he married Mrs. Marian Crocker of Maple Valley, who passed away in February, 1938. Surviving are the three sons, William and Edwin Acker of Westford and Roy of Utica. A stepdaughter, Mrs. Leta Brown of Fonda, two nephews and a niece in Oneonta as well as two grandsons and several great grandchildren. The sympathy of the community is extended the bereaved family."
