LAST WINFIELD GRANGE CHARTER MEMBER IS DEAD
William H. Schweitzer, 91, of RD #1, Dover, the last living charter member of the Winfield Grange died Wednesday afternoon in the Karl Nursing Home following a long illness.
Born in Oldtown Valley, he was the son of the late Gotteleib and Mary Schupp Schweitzer.
He joined the Winfield Grange in 1897 when it was chartered as No. 1473.
He had been master, secretary, and lecturer of the grange.
He was a farmer for 88 years.
His first wife, the former Ida Bair, died in 1902, and his second wife, the former Millie Houghton Keplinger died in 1940.
He was also preceded in death by a son.
A member of the Winfield United Methodist Church, he made his home for many years with Mr and Mrs Ervin Lederman.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday at 1:30pm in the Toland Herzig Funeral Home with Rev. Melvin Hollingsworth officiating.
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm.
Grange services will be Friday at 8:15pm.
