Howard was a Spec 4 Infantryman with A CO, 1ST BN, 18TH INFANTRY, 1ST INF DIV, USARV. He gave his life for our country in the Binh Long Province of South Vietnam, a casualty of hostile actions while on night defense near Saigon. For courage and action under fire he was awarded the Silver Star. He enlisted in the Army on September 27, 1966, and had been in Vietnam for nine months and had seen action in several battles. His name is inscribed on the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C. on Panel 31E, Line 080.
Funeral services were held December 20, 1967. Survivors include his parents, four brothers, and three sisters.
