Lois was one of fourteen Williamsport High School students killed when the school bus they were returning from a field trip in collided with an express train at Rockville, Maryland on the night of April 11, 1935. After the tragedy, the inhabitants of Williamsport gathered donations to build a public library in memory of the students. It still stands and is used to this day.
Lois Winters was laid to rest in Riverview Cemetery on April 15, 1935.
